Janet Dunn Awarded Ruth Krusie Award for Nursing Excellence
Registered Nurse Janet Dunn is the winner of the 2010 Ruth Krusie Excellence in Nursing Award. Eligible nurses are nominated by their peers and the final choice is made by former Ruth Krusie award winners, a group of 22.
Janet has been at Fauquier Hospital since the mid-1990s, working mostly with surgical patients for six years. Since 2000, she has been spreading her special brand of caring and comfort to patients in Outpatient Special Procedures. Why did she switch? “I thought it was time to do something different,” she said. “I loved working with the surgical patients and thought my co-workers were absolutely wonderful. Then I moved to Outpatient Special Procedures and found that the staff there was just as wonderful. I guess it’s a Fauquier thing.”
Dedicated to her profession, Janet started as an LPN right out of high school, got her associate’s degree after raising her kids, and last year earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Old Dominion University.
Janet’s nomination included high praise from her fellow nurses: “She addresses her daily life as a nurse with professionalism to her peers and patients.” “She is unfailingly kind and delivers thorough patient care.” “She is active in hospital committees and is at the top of the clinical ladder.” “Her goal of becoming a nurse educator reflects her love of the nursing profession.” “Her life and career intertwine in her service to others.” Janet said, “I think that Faquier Hospital has the greatest people in the world. To be chosen by my peers for the Ruth Krusie award is such a great honor.
