Charles Hogge, MD Ophthalmology
As an ophthalmologist with two decades of experience, Dr. Hogge is committed to providing our patients with the highest level of care. In addition to regularly attending conferences and training programs to stay current with the latest technological advances, he spends time educating patients about the different treatment options and listening to their concerns. Board certified in ophthalmology, Dr. Hogge specializes in a broad range of eye care services, including cataract and glaucoma surgery. But more importantly, he specializes in putting the needs of our patients first.
Education and Training After earning his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Medical College of Virginia in 1985, Dr. Hogge completed the Greater Baltimore Medical Center Internal Medicine Internship Program and Ophthalmology Residency Program. In addition, he completed the Lancaster Course in Ophthalmology at Colby College in Waterville, Maine. Prior to medical school, Dr. Hogge earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia and completed graduate courses in biology at the College of William & Mary.
Honors and Awards Dr. Hogge is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Virginia Society of Ophthalmology and the Medical Society of Virginia.
Research Dr. Hogge has researched numerous ophthalmology topics, including vernal conjunctivitis, optic neuritis and the visual evoked response, viral contamination of soft contact lenses, unexplained visual loss, and the pathology and histopathology of commotio retinae. Some of his findings were published in Retina, and the other findings were presented at annual meetings for the American Academy of Ophthalmology and professional meetings for other medical venues.
Employment Dr. Hogge joined Fauquier Health as a private practice physician with Dominion Eye Care in 1993. Prior to that, he was an assistant professor of ophthalmology at Eastern Virginia Medical School, and an ophthalmologist with Medical & Surgical Eye Specialists in Norfolk. He also is a former president of the Fauquier Medical Society and has been a volunteer ophthalmology consultant for the Fauquier Free Clinic since its inception.
Personal Interests Dr. Hogge is married and has two children. In his spare time, he enjoys cycling, climbing and playing bagpipes. He also is a former foxhunter, Rotarian, volunteer physician for the Old Dominion University Athletic Department and volunteer course director for the Run for the Children fundraiser in Norfolk.
