Your Patient Account

We understand that billing concerns can be stressful. We want to help you to understand your bill and to receive all of our financial services that are appropriate for you. The first step is to determine if your health plan participates with Fauquier Hospital and to familiarize yourself with the terms of your insurance coverage. This will help you understand our billing procedures and charges. Contact Physician Referral & Community Link at 540-316-DOCS(3627) or 1-800-322-7500 for a complete list of participating health plans.

To speak with a financial counselor, call 540-316-2970.

You will be asked to pay any co-payments at the time of registration. We will send you a statement, after insurance settlement, for any unpaid balances not covered by your insurance. For your convenience, MasterCard and VISA are accepted. We will work with you if you have difficulty with payment.

If you have questions about your bill, setting up a payment plan, or about financial assistance, please contact our hospital business office at 540-316-2970, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. An account representative will research your question and call you back. For questions about your bill, call Patient Accounts at 540-316-2973

Medicaid and other types of financial assistance are available for those who qualify. For more information, call 540-316-2970, and a financial counselor will assist you.

If You Have Health Insurance

We will need a copy of your identification card. You will be asked to assign benefits from the insurance company directly to the hospital.

If You Are a Member of an HMO or PPO

Your plan may have special requirements, such as a second surgical opinion or pre-certification for certain tests or procedures. It is your responsibility to make sure the requirements of your plan have been met. If your plan's requirements are not followed, you may be financially responsible for all or part of the services rendered in the hospital. Some physician specialists may not participate in your health care plan and their services may not be covered.

If You Are Covered by Medicaid

We will need a copy of your Medicaid card. Medicaid also has payment limitations on a number of services and items.

If You Are Covered by Medicare

We will need a copy of your Medicare card to verify eligibility and process your Medicare claim. You should be aware that the Medicare program specifically excludes payment for certain items and services, such as cosmetic surgery, some oral surgery procedures, personal comfort items, hearing evaluations, and others. Deductibles and co-payments are also your responsibility. For more information on your benefits, claims processing, or getting a replacement card, you may contact 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227).

If You Have No Insurance

A representative from our Financial Counseling Department will discuss financial arrangements with you. You may contact our financial counselors at 540-316-2970, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. A member of our Social Services staff will also be available to assist you in applying for Medicaid or other government assistance programs. The hospital Social Services Department can be reached at 540-316-2480.

Fill out our Financial Aid Form to see if you qualify for assistance.

Your Hospital Bill

The hospital is responsible for submitting bills to your insurance company and will do everything possible to expedite your claim. But you should remember that your policy is a contract between you and your insurance company, and you have the final responsibility for payment of your hospital bill. We have several payment options available to assist you in paying your bill.
Your bill reflects all of the services you receive during your stay. Charges fall into two categories: the basic daily rate and special services. The basic daily rate includes your room, meals, general nursing care, housekeeping, laundry, maintenance services, medical records services, administrative services, telephone, and television. Special services may include items such as operating room, recovery room, anesthesia, medications, oxygen, x-rays, laboratory tests, physical therapy, and rehabilitation services or respiratory therapy.

Bills for Other Services

If you have certain tests or treatments in the hospital, you may receive bills from physicians you did not see in person. These bills are for professional services rendered by these doctors in diagnosing and interpreting test results while you were a patient. Pathologists, radiologists, cardiologists, anesthesiologists, emergency physicians, and other specialists are not employees of Fauquier Hospital. They are required to submit separate bills for their professional services. If you have questions about these bills, please call the number printed on the statement you receive from them.

What is the difference between a Medical Center and a Hospital?

In general, a medical center oftentimes includes several types of health facilities, such as hospitals, medical schools, and research facilities. The focus is larger and not completely on patient care. Hospitals, on the other hand, are smaller and staffed with health care experts and are focused on patients’ treatment and health.
