David Perlmutter, MD Interventional Radiology
As life expectancies continue to increase and the use of minimally invasive procedures continues to grow, interventional radiologists are becoming a more integral part of the diagnosis, treatment and management of diseases. Through small skin nicks, interventional radiologists can treat many different parts of the body using radiologic images to guide tiny instruments through the blood vessels and other pathways, thus eliminating the need for open surgery. Board certified in diagnostic radiology and vascular interventional radiology, Dr. Perlmutter appreciates the revolutionary advances his specialty field is providing for the health care industry, but he also understands there is much more to interventional radiology than high-tech imaging devices, catheters and wires. For Dr. Perlmutter, spending extra time with a patient before a procedure to explain how he’s going to correct a problem, and going over the results afterwards is just as important as the technology.
Education and Training After earning his Doctor of Medicine degree from Jefferson Medical College in 1995, Dr. Perlmutter completed the Crozer-Chester Medical Center Internship Program, and the University of Maryland Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program and Interventional Radiology Fellowship Program.
Honors and Awards Among his many honors, Dr. Perlmutter served as the Chief Resident at the University of Maryland. He also has written numerous publications on computer and web based medical imaging teaching tools. In addition, Dr. Perlmutter is currently a member of many professional organizations, including the Society of Interventional Radiology, Radiological Society of North America, American Roentgen Ray Society and the American College of Radiology.
Employment Dr. Perlmutter joined Fauquier Health as a private practice physician with Virginia Radiology Associates in 2001, right after he completed his fellowship program.
