Douglas Markert, MD
Interventional Radiology

Interventional radiology has been at the forefront of the medical movement toward minimally invasive, image-guided procedures, and Dr. Markert has been at the forefront of our efforts to provide these procedures at Fauquier Health. As an interventional radiologist for more than a decade, Dr. Markert specializes in everything from uterine fibroid embolization to tumor chemo embolization to peripheral arterial angiography. He was also featured in Oprah Winfrey’s O Magazine for an article about using ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy to banish varicose veins. Board certified in diagnostic radiology and vascular interventional radiology, Dr. Markert understands the importance of putting our patients’ needs first. That’s why he’s proud to work in a specialty field that results in less pain, fewer complications and shorter recovery times for our patients.

While attending EVMS, he received honors in diagnostic imaging, radiology, biochemistry, internal medicine and numerous other subject areas. He also scored in the top 10 percent of his class on the radiology board examination. Dr. Markert is currently a member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Radiology, Radiological Society of North America, American Roentgen Ray Society and the Society of Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology.

What is the difference between a Medical Center and a Hospital?

In general, a medical center oftentimes includes several types of health facilities, such as hospitals, medical schools, and research facilities. The focus is larger and not completely on patient care. Hospitals, on the other hand, are smaller and staffed with health care experts and are focused on patients’ treatment and health.
