Patrick Zazzaro, MD Radiology
Radiologists diagnose a wide variety of illnesses and injuries. They also view hundreds of thousands of images throughout their careers. So it’s not enough to be observant, methodical, accurate and disciplined—radiologists also need to have tenacious memories and great stamina. With the combination of a solid education, strong medical training, more than three decades of experience and board certification in diagnostic radiology, Dr. Zazzaro has proven that he possesses all of these qualities, and more. Most notably, he’s an expert in his field, a respected leader, and a compassionate physician with a genuine concern for the well-being of our patients.
Education and Training After earning his Doctor of Medicine degree from the College of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Rutgers Medical School in 1975, Dr. Zazzaro completed the Medical College of Virginia Internship Program and Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program, where he also served as Chief Resident.
Honors and Awards Among his many academic honors, Dr. Zazzaro graduated with High Distinction from his undergraduate program in biochemistry at Rutgers College, and was a Henry Rutgers Scholar. During medical school, he received the Lange Medical Student Award, was a Teaching Labs Research Fellow, and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society as a charter member. In addition, Dr. Zazzaro is currently a member of numerous professional organizations, including the Radiological Society of North America, American Roentgen Ray Society, American College of Radiology and the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine.
Research Dr. Zazzaro has conducted research on: gallium scanning in malignant fibrous histiocytoma; the development of a fluorescent antibody technique for detecting antinuclear antibodies; and the synthesis of 5-deoxy-5-thio-D-glucosamine.
Employment Dr. Zazzaro joined Fauquier Health as a private practice physician with Virginia Radiology Associates in 1979, right after he completed his residency program. Prior to that, while in residency, he was a clinical fellow in diagnostic radiology for the American Cancer Society in New York City, and a fellow in radiologic pathology for the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Washington, D.C. Dr. Zazzaro is currently the president of Virginia Radiology Associates.
Personal Interests Dr. Zazzaro is married and has four children.
