Fauquier Health Sleep Center
The first step in overcoming a sleep problem is determining a diagnosis. The Fauquier Health Sleep Center, located in the Warrenton Professional Center on Blackwell Road, opened in 1998. The Sleep Center, which is fully accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, offers a comfortable, hotel-like atmosphere.
The Sleep Center was founded to diagnose and treat patients who have problems with normal sleep, such as obstructive sleep apnea, periodic limb movement disorder or narcolepsy. These disorders, as well as others studied at the center, can result in excessive daytime sleepiness, cardiovascular problems (high blood pressure, heart rhythm problems, possibly stroke) and poor quality of life, among other consequences.
Designed not only to perform sleep studies, but also to support the physician and patient through the diagnostic and treatment processes, the Sleep Center seeks to provide physicians with comprehensive and timely sleep study interpretations, informational support on sleep-related issues and complete follow-up services by utilizing state-of-the-art computerized equipment to monitor 16 to 20 biological and neurological factors. The Sleep Center can perform full diagnostic and treatment testing for sleep apnea (cessation of breathing, frequently associated with snoring), periodic limb movements (uncontrollable leg and/or body movements) and narcolepsy (uncontrollable sleep attacks).
After a diagnosis is determined, treatments may include continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) or bi-level positive airway pressure (BiPAP) which can also be studied at the sleep center.
Patients are referred to the center for testing by their family physician, or given the number of local sleep physicians to facilitate their care. They also can get in touch with the Sleep Center directly, but will be requested to arrange a visit with their physician before being tested. Sleep studies at the center are considered a hospital outpatient service. Therefore, they and are typically are covered by most major health plans. Call 540-316-2660 for more information.
Patients under age 18 must have an adult stay with them during the study.
