Cardiopulmonary and Vascular Services
Cardiopulmonary and Vascular Services at Fauquier Hospital offers an array of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for both inpatient and outpatient clients with cardiac, neurological, vascular and respiratory conditions. This department consists of five specialty areas that are equipped with state-of-the-art technologies.
Cardiac Services:
Cardiac Services offers many cardiac diagnostics, including:
- EKG’s and Holter monitoring for the infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric population with cardiac symptoms or conditions
- Cardiac stress testing, treadmill, pharmacological, nuclear, stress echocardiograms for adolescent, adult and geriatric clients.
- New procedures coming soon will be 30-day cardiac event monitoring and tilt table testing for diagnosing neurocardiogenic syncope. Both new procedures will be offered to clients aged 16 years and older.
- Fauquier Hospital’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Program is a medically prescribed exercise and education program for people who have had a heart attack or heart surgery or who have stable angina or other forms of cardiovascular disease.

ECHO (Noninvasive Cardiology):
ECHO (Noninvasive Cardiology) offers cardiac diagnostic studies such as echocardiograms, bubble studies, TEE (transeosophogeal echocardiograms). Pediatric echocardiograms are also offered within this area. Cardiac services and ECHO partner for the stress echocardiograms or dobutamine stress echocardiograms. All the studies performed in this area aid cardiologists in diagnosing cardiac problems or conditions. Contact ext. 3553.
Neurophysiology:
Neurophysiology offers EEG, sleep-deprived EEG, EMG diagnostic testing for adolescent, adult and geriatric patients who may be having neurological problems or conditions. As an additional specialty, the area works with an ENT physician for needle guided Botox injections using the EMG equipment for vocal cord dysphonia. Contact ext. 3352.
Vascular:
Peripheral Vascular offers venous duplex, carotid doppler and arterial studies for the adolescent, adult and geriatric patients with vascular problems or conditions. Another service offered by this department is vascular screening, used to detect the presence of mild to severe disease.
There are three screenings, carotid artery plague for stroke, abdominal aortic aneurysm screening and peripheral vascular disease screening ankle-brachial index screening. Anyone wishing to arrange a screening may call 316-5800 to schedule. There is no physician’s order necessary and the screenings are self-pay only. After a physician interprets the tests, the results are mailed to the client. The client can then take the results to their physician. Contact ext. 3147.
Respiratory:
Respiratory offers both therapeutic and diagnostic procedures and testing to patients with breathing problems. The therapeutic procedures include all aspects of bronchodilator therapy, oxygen therapy, and mechanical ventilation on all patients, from infant to the geriatric, with respiratory problems or conditions. The diagnostic procedures in this area are complete pulmonary function testing with body plethysmography , cardiopulmonary stress testing, arterial blood gases, home oxygen assessments, methacholine challenge studies, heliobacter pylori breath testing, and breath alcohol testing.
