Fauquier ER: Intensive/Critical Care Unit

The 10 bed Intensive/Critical Care Unit at Fauquier Hospital has exceptionally skilled staff and state of the art equipment to provide the best opportunity for recovery from serious illness. The Planetree focus is extended into the critical care area, allowing open visitation, overnight accommodations and encouragement of the Care Partner program. The care and concern shown by our staff helps support not only the patients, but also the family during a very trying time.

Care Partners

A key component of Fauquier Hospital's patient care is inclusion of a "care partner." The care partner program provides a unique opportunity for a family member or friend to participate in the care of his or her loved one during and after the patient's stay at Fauquier Hospital.

The care partner is a friend or family member chosen by the patient to lend a hand with the preparation, surgery and recovery. They're encouraged to attend the joint program, accompany the patient to the hospital and communicate with medical staff to help the patient through every step of the process and provide an additional level of encouragement and support.

During admission, you will be asked to name your care partner. The designation means that you are authorizing hospital staff to discuss your care and share your medical information with this person during your hospital stay. Your care partner should be a close and highly trusted family member or friend who knows you very well. To ensure accurate identification of your care partner, they will be given a special number.

To enable the staff to concentrate on caring for patients, your care partner can update your extended family on your condition. To speed your recuperation, the designate can assist in meal selection, hold your hand, get you a warm blanket, provide you with emotional support and learn the skills to prepare for your at-home care.

We request that your care partner be involved in discharge planning as much as possible to ensure that all your needs for equipment, assistance with care after discharge and additional educational on your condition are met.

Serving all of Fauquier County and Northern Virginia, including the cities like Middleburg, Haymarket, Manassas, our Intensive Care Unit is just one portion of our state-of-the-art emergency care. For more information, visit our Fauquier ER page.
